The Sea House Shout-Out – May 2026

Written byMatt

The latest news from Sea House Records and The Sea House Music Venue

Hello and welcome to our new style newsletter. We hope you enjoy reading about our music so much that you’ll listen to our fabulous artists and maybe come to a show at our fabulous new venue in Barrow.  We’ve got lots to catch up on.

Matt Kassell, Chairman of Seahouse Media CIC, 8th May 2026

Calum Baird

Calum is a new artist on the Sea House roster, and we are delighted to have him. A musician with years of touring experience, his songs are guaranteed to resonate with anyone who feels the struggle of the human condition. Described as folk-punk, Calum’s acoustic sound provides a perfect backdrop for his strong and melodic voice.

Make your own mind up by listening to his first single with Seahouse, the inspiring Discovery, catch him live on tour in the UK and Europe, and meet the man himself at the Sea House in November.  Read more at https://calumbaird.com/

Alex Parker

We are also very happy to welcome a second new artist to the label. Alex Parker is a singer-songwriter from the Lancaster area, who has been busy creating a reputation with her live acoustic solo gigs around the north west of England since graduating from Kendal College, where she studied music.

Last year Alex won Carnforth X-Factor, a charity competition to raise money for St John’s Hospice in Lancaster. Part of her prize was to record a single for Sea House. Alex co-wrote and co-produced Bittersweet with Mark Docherty and Emker Cel, and the single (released 9th May) is a continuation of the good cause, with all profits going to the St John’s Hospice.

The AeroBees

Save My Soul is the second single in recent months from The AeroBees. The boys have been busy gigging around the North West as well as visiting the studio to record. Excellent production on this single, and we think Scott’s voice sounds better than ever. Give it a listen, give them a follow!

Emker Cel

Now, rather than describe this in third person, I’ll skip the pretence and talk about this song as if it were mine, because that’s exactly what it is. It’s called Think! It came out on 8th May, I produced it at my own studio and had a lot of fun playing it. The song itself calls for people to think for themselves, rather than take the word of politicians, news, or (GASP!) parents as gospel. Hmmm, what do you think of Think!? I think you can see more of Emker Cel here. I think so anyway.

The Sea House Music Venue

The Sea House is our very own new venue. We have opened it as a joint project with Women’s Community Matters, and it is based in the historic Nan Tait Centre building, Abbey Road, Barrow-in-Furness. The venue is run entirely by volunteers, and we aim to put on monthly music shows as well as occasional films and other special events.

The venue is non-alcoholic, and this means we can welcome people of any age to come and see live music. Our ongoing “Kids For A Quid” promotion is to encourage under-18s to come and experience live music, something they are largely prevented from doing in pubs and clubs. WCM’s fine catering facilities offers a range of hot and cold drinks, including 0% lagers, beers, and wines. There is also a selection of snacks, as well as popcorn, chips and ice-cream. Yessssssss!!!!

Coming up this month at the Sea House

6:00 PM

Sundown Sessions with Brass & Blaise, Brapscallion & Aoire

Tickets here £8 adv / £10 door

Headliners Brass & Blaise joined the Sea House label just over a year ago as part of the Next Wave project, and have gone on to establish themselves as a unique and distinctive act on the live scene, as well as busying themselves with various studio releases. Lou and Dom make grooves you want to listen to, and you’ll be humming the tunes all day long.

Brapscallion is a Preston-based, multi-instrumentalist producer blending dusty hip-hop, jazz-hop and lo-fi house into warm, spacey electronic music. Built around groove, texture and subtle lift, the sound sits somewhere between late-night headphones music and slow-motion dancefloor energy. We look forward to welcoming Brapscallion on his first visit to the Sea House.

Aoire creates music with cassette tapes, live sampling and effects pedals that has all the hiss, wow and flutter of the cassette format building pastoral dissonance and ambient soundscapes in real time. Shaun is also a very fabulous volunteer at The Sea House and does tons of work in the community for creativity and mental health. He is a star.

That was a busy one! Thank you for reading this far. We really do hope that you have a listen to the varied, inspired and independently produced music we are putting out into the world, and if you do get a chance, please come and see us down at The Sea House. Coming up in the next few months…Radio KFK, Jim Templa, Soul Survivors, Emker Cel, Pearl & The Piano, Vinnie Peculiar, Jonny Swift, Calum Baird, and more!

See you next month. Peace and love, all at The Sea House
