December-illiance

Written byMatt

Hello and welcome to our final newsletter of what has been a truly marvelous year for us at Seahouse. The amazing productivity and progress made by our artists throughout the year has shown no signs of letting up as this final month arrives, so let’s fill you in on what’s new.

—-------------------

Tis the season to be festive, and so far this month we’ve had Christmas singles from Mark Docherty, Sylanna, John Viles and Jonny Swift. Each of these brand new songs also feature on our very own Christmas album, A Very Seahouse Christmas. The album is already available on CD and download from our Bandcamp page and will get a full streaming release on Friday 19th December.

Featuring wonderful artwork from Jay Simpson, the CD is limited to a run of 100. Once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Full track listing:

  • PaZz - It’s How We Spend Our Christmas
  • Pearl & The Piano - Now Christmas Can Begin
  • Psyklones - Brussell Sprouts
  • Jonny Swift - The Dog Ate The Turkey
  • Sylanna - Christmas Candle
  • PWC - The Ghosts Of Christmas
  • Mark Docherty - Christmas Time (And I Love You)
  • John Viles - How Many Sleeps Til Christmas?
  • Grant Curnow - Christmas Pudding Factory Disaster
  • Emker Cel - Blue Xmas

Now, you can look at this two ways. You can say that John Viles releases an album every 36.5 years, or you can say this is his second in 14 months. Either way it’s impressive!

Following on from 2024’s Nashville Dreams, John continues his country blues style while developing his songwriting to include a wider variety of influences. On board to help him achieve this are fellow Seahouse artists Sylanna (his daughter), Dom McCavish, Peter Kassell and producer Emker Cel, with Tom Curwen providing atmospheric lap steel and John’s wife Ann and daughter Grace also providing backing vocals, this album has a true family and friends feel, and will appeal to any fan of melodic, meaningful country, folk, pop, and rock.

So Far So Good will be released on Friday 19th December on all streaming services and on limited edition compact Disc.

—-------------------

Pearl & The Piano return this month, not only with their beautiful Now Christmas Can Begin on A Very Seahouse Christmas, but with their new single Standing On The Edge Of The World. Recorded and produced by Graeme Park and featuring the excellent vocals of Carly McGuire, this is an uplifting piece of music which (we hope) hints at a new P&P album in the new year….please? Standing On The Edge Of The World is also released on Friday 19th December.

—-------------------

One of the biggest developments for us this year has been in the creation of our own venue. After a few test events we now have a name, a logo, a stage, and some events! A lot of hard work between Seahouse Media CIC and Women’s Community Matters, with support from Westmorland and Furness Council, has enabled us to offer our town a true alternative music venue: a welcoming safe space for all, with no alcohol or late finishes, vegetarian food served and of course some of the finest original music from the Furness area and beyond.

Please give us a follow on Facebook and Instagram and help spread the word. We are based in the Grade 2 listed Nan Tait Centre, Abbey Road, Barrow-in-Furness, and to start we are offering an event at the end of each month.

This month’s event is on the afternoon of Sunday 21st December, 2-5pm. It features a headline act from the John Viles band, a set from Pearl & The Piano, and full playback of A Very Seahouse Christmas. It promises to be a very special winter spectacle, and you can get your tickets in advance from here

In keeping with our policy to help bring live music to younger audiences, entry fro under 16s is just £1. Yeah, kids for a quid!

—-------------------

It’s been a busy month for the Seahouse Podcast team too. You can hear Matt interviewing Psyklones main man Tony Murphy about all sorts of things including their new album Ballet Of Sniper’s Alley in episode 18, and in episode 19 Matt and Jonny are joined by Sylanna to review A Very Seahouse Christmas. You can access both episodes here and we will also have some major podcast news in the new year!

—-------------------

In other news…

  • Sugarfoot are playing “Music In Ulpha” at the Browfoot Room on Saturday 29th December
  • She Becomes released a single, Necromancer, back in November which really should be heard! The band are working hard on their debut album which will be out in the spring.
  • We also have rumours of studio activity from Distorted Model, Jonny Swift, Grant Curnow, John Keyboard and Emker Cel, so the new year is looking very promising indeed!

—-------------------

That’s all for now, and for this year. Thank you everyone for listening, reading, attending and sharing all things SEAHOUSE. We really appreciate the support, and we hope to continue to bring you more and more in 2026.

Merry Christmas and A Happy and Peaceful New Year to you all.

Love from all at Seahouse
