Hello everyone, we hope you’re enjoying the lovely early summer weather. Drink plenty of water!
We’ve got some nice new things to tell you about.
Firstly, our Songs From Round Town album gets its full release this coming Friday, 23rd May. This is an album original songs by ten different Seahouse artists celebrating our hometown of Barrow-in-Furness. The limited edition CD we released at Christmas gave a few lucky souls a chance to hear the songs in advance, but if you still can’t wait to listen you can hear an exclusive preview of each song in full on the latest Seahouse Podcast with Matt, John and Jonny giving inside info on the making of the record, the stories behind the songs, as well as information about the upcoming live event.
The full tracklisting of the Songs From Round Town album is as follows:
- Island Skies - Emker Cel
- Job For Life - Mark Docherty
- Siren - Jamie Bosanko
- Round Town - Peter Kassell
- The Old Bluebird - Barry Postlethwaite
- Haney - Olivia Dacre
- A Love Song To Barrow - PaZz
- The Devilment Shift - Pearl And The Piano
- The White Lion, Slater Street - Prater Monks
- Under The Shipyard Lights - Jonny Swift
Album produced, mixed and mastered by Matt Kassell at Digital Man Studio, Barrow.
As mentioned above, we’re having a celebratory live event to mark the album, and this takes place next Saturday, 24th May, at The Nan Tait Centre, Abbey Road, Barrow. Tickets are £7 on the door, but we recommend getting advance tickets online for £6 from Eventbrite
Not all of the artists featured on the album can make it so we’ve got some friends helping out (see poster for details). There’s songs new and old from the artists’ own catalogues too, as well as a full live performance of songs from the album, backed by the Sea House Band.
This is our second live event in partnership with Women’s Community Matters at our new venue, and we welcome everyone, including children 10 and over accompanied by a responsible adult. We will be serving vegetarian food, non-alcholic drinks, snacks, and merch. I think we’ve got a few of those Round Town CDs left somewhere…

John Viles will be our special guest at the live Songs From Round Town show. John joined the label too late to be part of the album project, but we felt that this was a really nice opportunity to hand him his live public performance debut…at the grand old age of 73! Better late than never, eh JV? This timing of this is quite nice as John released his new single Not Enough Blue Skies last week, and he will be performing this song live with the Sea House Band (including his daughter Anna, aka Sylanna) next Saturday. Another reason to grab a ticket!
You can listen to Not Enough Blue Skies here

Here’s something a little different…our very own Mark Docherty was asked to be a judge for Carnforth X-Factor recently. By all accounts it was a tremendous night which raised thousands for the local St John’s hospice, and Mark was very complimentary about all the finalists.
The winner was Alex Parker who will work with Matt Kassell and Mark to produce a song of her own at Digital Man Studio in Barrow, which we will release on the Seahouse label. More great community work all round, and we hope that Alex’s single helps earn even more funds for St John’s. Nice one Mark, and congratulations to Alex!

That’s nearly it for now, we’ll be back after Songs From Round Town, and we hope to see you there, and we hope you enjoy the album and podcast. Next time we’ll have news of new singles from Sylanna and Prater Monks, a Brass & Blaise EP, a new Seahouse artist, and studio murmurings from She Becomes, Emker Cel and others!
Take care out there, it’s a bit warm.
Love from all at Seahouse Records xxxx
