Seahouse Records Events 2025

24 May 2025 - Songs from Around Town

Barrow-based independent record label Seahouse Records releases its “Songs From Round Town” album on Friday 23rd May, with a live concert event to mark the occasion the following day.

The album, which is the result of the label’s Heritage Lottery Fund award supported by Westmorland and Furness Council, features ten original songs written by different artists on the Seahouse label. Each song has Furness at the core of its subject, and topics range from the geography of the area, to working life in the shipyard, to nights out ‘round town, to taking pride in what being from the area means to people.

The album was originally released on limited edition CD back in December, but this time it gets the full worldwide digital release.

To celebrate the release and to mark the culmination of the project, a live show is taking place on Saturday 24th May at the Nan Tait Centre. This will feature the Seahouse Band which played on the album, with eight different singers performing all the songs from the album, plus some of their own from the Seahouse catalogue. Special guest John Viles will also be making his first ever public performance, at the tender young age of 73.

Seahouse director and project coordinator Matt Kassell says “The artists have really excelled in their songwriting for this album. Every song is different, but the common theme of Barrow and Furness means that there’s something for everyone to relate to. We have really enjoyed hearing people’s reactions to the songs from the CD release, and now we want to share these songs with a wider audience”.

Tickets are £6 advance from Eventbrite or £7 on the doors, which open at 6pm. Also on the night, vegetarian food, sweet treats and non-alcoholic drinks will be available. This event continues the partnership between Seahouse Records and Women’s Community Matters to provide live music events in a welcoming safe space. Children are welcome to attend, accompanied by a responsible adult. CDs, T-shirts and other merchandise will be on sale, with all profits going back into establishing the new community venue.
